Multitasking Car driving skills, distracting?

General NewsYou've been there: stuck in traffic gabbing on the phone, stealing bites of your burrito, reapplying lipstick, doing some makeup changes or writing notes about things you need to remember.

But lawmakers want to put an end to all that motorist multitasking behavior. So what, I drive years without any insurance claim, the worst thing ever is somebody hitting me. So should the government intervene for safety's sake, or should they stay out of our cars?

Personally, my car is my space and we all have our own comfort zone behind the wheel, and I think it's our responsibility to figure out what we can handle as drivers. I can apply lipstick, mascara, and shadow with minimal attention loss and, I admit it, I' an excellent knee driver.

But I am a serious behind-the-wheel multitasking operator offender! I'm constantly checking and responding to e-mail and SMS while driving, and, of course, talking on the phone. Now-a-days at least I'm talking on the phone hands-free thanks to Bluetooth.

One of my friends, who thinks that I'm a irresponsible driver, thinks it's a good idea to have government regulation about what can and can't be done behind the wheel. She, and I have to agree on this, says that some people are bad enough drivers already without adding multitasking into the driving scenario. My friend beliefs, that many of us are just plain dumber than a bag of hammers, and she thinks the government needs to protect us from ourselves.
