Smoking Really that Bad for your Skin

HealthIs smoking really that bad for your skin? Sorry to break it to you but in a word, yes! I is known that smoking causes a host of issues for innocent complexions.

Smoking sucks vitamins, in particular vitamins A and C, from skin. These are two of the most potent anti-ageing vitamins, responsible for mopping up free radicals that cause ageing and skin deterioration.

Smoking restricts your blood vessels and, eventually, the flow of the blood to your skin.

Skin then becomes starved of oxygen and vital micronutrients, and so it starts to look sallow and swollen instead of peachy. This happen especially in the face, were we have endless small blood vessels.

Wrinkles are caused by repetitive facial action. Think about it, you purse your lips around a cigarette sucking on it over and over. Did someone say "cate's bum"?

And then we have probably hundreds of reasons why not to smoke what are not skin related. A study from the Erasmus Medical University and Centre, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, concluded that maternal smoking during pregnancy is associated with reduced growth in fetal head circumference, abdominal circumference, and femur length. The larger effect on femur length suggests that smoking during pregnancy affects primarily peripheral tissues.
